About iLindy

Kevin St. Laurent and Jo Hoffberg believe that the old saying “practice makes perfect” can be improved upon by applying a small variation, “perfect practice makes perfect.” If you practice something wrong 1,000 times, you’ll be really good at doing it incorrectly. So take the time you need to practice the material correctly.

The number one thing that all top level dancers share is training.

iLindy will allow you to progress at the speed of your success. However, it is not a replacement for practice. This website is a reference tool of information that can speed up the learning process by providing proven dance techniques and lindy hop moves in an efficient format.

In addition to iLindy we recommend that all students incorporate one or more of these tools into their learning process:

  • Regular Social Dancing
  • Regular training with a practice partner(s)
  • Local Group Classes
  • Weekend Workshops
  • Dance Camps
  • Private Lessons
  • Teaching
  • Choreographing a routine and performing it
  • Invent your own Lindy Hop moves
  • Join/start a dance troupe
  • Learn other dance forms (such as Balboa, Tap, West African Dancing, Hip-Hop, Tango…etc)
  • Use other Instructional Videos

Experiment and find what works best for you.

    Kevin St. Laurent Lindy Hop

Kevin St. Laurent started dancing at the age of 8 years old with Tap, Ballet and Jazz. In 1993 he started learning Balboa and West Coast Swing. In 1995 he started with Lindy Hop and by 2000 he won the World Lindy Hop Championships in Munich, Germany. In 2001 he went professional and has since taught in over 30 countries across 5 continents.

    Jo Hoffberg Lindy Hop

Jo Hoffberg started dancing in 1998, but since 2007 has spent her life traveling the world spreading jazz culture through vintage partner dancing and has also taught and performed in 30 countries across 5 continents. She teaches vernacular jazz, lindy hop, ladies’ only workshops, runs teacher training in Europe and the States, as well as a performance/choreography weekend. In 2013, she was on the cover of Swing Magasinet om Swingdans, guest starred at Yehoodi broadcast of ILHC, and was inducted into the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame. She is a passionate and avid dancer, instructor and competitor.

Kevin and Jo first met and danced together starting in 2000, but they didn’t begin their teaching partnership until 2007. Together they have won several major dance championships titles from the American Lindy Hop Championships, Canadian Swing Championships, International Lindy Hop Championships, European Swing Dance Championships, National Jitterbug Championships, Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown, and U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships. Their main passion is social dancing and jazz culture. Since 2007, they have accumulated over 3,000 hours of teaching together in pretty much every possible class format you can image. Their material is a combination of information they have synthesized from vintage film clips, countless hours of social dancing, from top dancers from around the globe, from routines and lindy hop moves they have been creating since 2000 (solo, partnered & team choreographies), from the previous 18 instructional DVDs they filmed, and from all the dance classes they have attended in a plethora of other dance forms including Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, and Jazz.

“They are trying to change the world…one rock step at a time.”
